Despite all the talk and excitement last offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the same position they were in 2024: Without a wide receiver to aptly complement George Pickens.
The Steelers can’t repeat the same mistake this offseason. Hopefully, they’ve learned their lesson, given Pittsburgh had one of the NFL’s least-productive receiving corps in 2024 (Pickens, 900 yards; Calvin Austin III, 549; Van Jefferson, 276).
Aside from Pickens, the only receivers under contract in 2025 are Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, who missed his entire rookie season due to injuries.
The Steelers were linked to virtually every receiver available last summer, most notably Brandon Aiyuk, who eventually re-signed with the 49ers after lengthy contract negotiations.
Pittsburgh had a deal to acquire Christian Kirk from the Jaguars at the trade deadline, but he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury before the deal could be consummated.
“You know me,” Khan told Steelers reporters at the NFL combine. “I’m always going to look at everything. If I feel like it will help us, we’ll take a shot. If not, we’ll move on.”
The Steelers have north of $60 million in cap space heading into free agency, a figure that could increase with further roster cuts.
Signing a talented receiver has to be paramount for Pittsburgh in the coming weeks.
