The Pittsburgh Steelers have invited athletic James Madison wide receiver Omarion Dollison to rookie minicamp, the school announced on Monday.

Dollison is an undersized wide out at 5-foot-9 1/4 and 186 pounds, but he was able to use his athleticism to become the top wide receiver for the Dukes during the 2024 season.

Over 13 games, Dollison caught 37 passes for 633 yards and six touchdowns, leading James Madison in yards and scores. The breakout campaign came after his first season at JMU saw him record just one reception: a 54-yard touchdown.

Before transferring to James Madison, Dollison spent three seasons at South Florida. Working primarily out of the slot at USF — Dollison played outside receiver at James Madison — he caught 60 passes for 666 yards one touchdown over the 2020, 2021 and 2022 seasons.

In pre-draft testing, Dollison’s athleticism shined through. He ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, and posted high marks for his vertical jump (37.5 inches) and broad jump (10-foot-5). Despite his slight stature, Dollison record an 8.35 Relative Athletic Score out of 10 from the results of the JMU pro day.

The Steelers will invite a number of players to tryouts for their three-day rookie minicamp, which will be held the second weekend of May at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

Over the last few seasons, the Steelers have typically signed one or two players to contracts from rookie camp invitees. Among the team’s rookie camp tryout successes have been quarterback Devlin Hodges in 2019. Last year, vets Anthony Averett and Jonathan Ward made the team after trying out at rookie camp.

The Steelers have a number of other undersized receivers already on their roster, including 5-foot-8 starter Calvin Austin III and reserves Scotty Miller (5-foot-9) and Roman Wilson (5-foot-11), making for a tough lineup for a player like Dollison to crack.

Serapiglia is the sixth player to be revealed as a tryout, joining Pitt outside linebacker Nate Matlack, Rhode Island RB/WR Tommy Smith, William & Mary QB/WR Hollis Mathis, New Hampshire quarterback Seth Morgan and Central Michigan center Dom Serapiglia.
