The Pittsburgh Steelers are off to the playoffs following a wild win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night. Through three quarters, both offenses were stymied. But in the fourth, Lamar Jackson hit one deep shot after another, continuously putting the Steelers in a hole.
But Aaron Rodgers once again showed why he is a future Hall of Fame quarterback. The veteran signal-caller led Pittsburgh on back-to-back lengthy touchdown drives, culminating in a 26-24 win.
Afterward, another future Hall of Fame player recognized Rodgers’ importance to the team’s success.
“You see 8 with the ball in his hands, and he’s here for a reason,” T.J. Watt said. “This is the best dude in the NFL for this moment.”
Rodgers finished the game 31-of-47 for 294 yards and a touchdown in the win. But it was what he did in the fourth quarter that left fans in amazement of the 42-year-old.
Jackson hit Zay Flowers for a 50-yard score to put Baltimore up 17-13. Rodgers, playing without his best weapon in DK Metcalf, worked the Steelers down the field to re-take the lead. The Ravens did not go quietly, though. Jackson once again hit Flowers, this time on a ridiculously blown coverage for a 24-20 lead.
Pittsburgh had a little over two minutes left, in need of a touchdown. On their final drive, the Steelers’ QB hit Calvin Austin, Adam Thielen, and Kenneth Gainwell on three successive plays to put the offense into position. Austin then burned the Ravens’ corner, and Rodgers found him open for a game-winning 26-yard touchdown.
The Steelers will now host an AFC Wild Card game against the Houston Texans. With 8 on their side, they certainly will have confidence that they can pull off another upset.
