Pittsburgh Steelers tight end JJ Galbreath revealed Darnell Washington‘s actual weight during an appearance on The Banner podcast. Washington is listed at 264 pounds on the team’s official website, but he’s actually a lot bigger.

“Try 320,” Galbreath said. “He was 320 when we were out there.” Out there presumably meaning at spring practices.

Galbreath added, “He’s cutting down weight. I think he said he wants to be right around 300 come training camp and for the season.”

Compared to Mike Tomlin, Mike McCarthy has stricter guidelines on players reaching weights, whether increasing or shedding pounds.

“Definitely with the new staff and these new weight fines this year, for sure gotta work on that,” Washington said. “And for sure gonna have to get down.”

Washington confirmed last season during an appearance on the St. Brown Podcast with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Equanimeous St. Brown that he weighed 311 pounds.

“I ain’t finna going cap to y’all. I ain’t weigh myself in a minute, but I know. I’mma keep it a buck, I’m 311,” Washington said.

Washington revealed to Heyward that managing his weight is something that he needs to work on.

“I just think my body filled out more. I could be for sure wrong, but I love food. Everybody got an addiction. Mine is video games and food,” he shared. “So that’s something I for sure gotta work on.”

“Mount Washington,” a fitting nickname for the big tight end out of Georgia, had a banner day in the Steelers’ 34-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11, recording four receptions for 67 yards (16.8 average).

Kyle Brandt of NFL Network named Washington as the Week 11 Angry Runs winner for his viral play against the Bengals when he bulldozed through three defenders.

Washington was nominated three times for his 31-yard catch and run, one time for each of the Bengals defenders he demolished. It’s the first time one player swept the finalist nominations.
