Freiermuth signed a four-year, $48.4 million contract extension with the Steelers on Sept. 6, 2024. The deal includes a $10.5 million signing bonus and was fully guaranteed at signing, with a total value of $12.1 million annually.

Freiermuth has a salary of $10.785 million in 2025 that is guaranteed against injury. His cap hit will be the largest of the deal, at $12.885 million. All of the guaranteed money in the contract comes in the first two seasons.

In 2024, the former Penn State tight end recorded 65 receptions for 653 yards (10.0 average) and seven touchdowns.

Freiermuth’s 65 receptions led the team last year. He also had the most receiving yards (653) of any pass-catcher who returns this season, being that George Pickens (900) was shipped to Dallas earlier this month.

With Aaron Rodgers now at quarterback, Freiermuth is expected to take a big leap in Year 5. To say the least, the Steelers have been hindered at the quarterback position in recent years and that has affected Freiermuth’s numbers. The middle of the field should be opened up more for Muth with Rodgers under center.

“I mean, I just take it day by day. You know, it is what it is. Just trying to put my head down and be a leader for this offense,” Freiermuth said last week at OTAs before it was announced that Rodgers signed with the Steelers. “We got a lot of new faces on this team, and I’m just trying to uphold the standard that I learned from older guys when I was here. So there’s a lot of other things I can be doing than worrying about who’s gonna be our quarterback.”
