Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Connor Heyward was fined for his late hit on a punt against the New York Jets in Week 1.

Heyward was flagged during the game for the late hit, which came as a Jets punt was being downed. Heyward was given a 15-yard personal foul penalty for the late hit, which hurt the Steelers’ field position. In addition to his block being late, it was also delivered toward the Steelers’ end zone.

Heyward is the first Steelers player to be fined this season. New York Jets edge rusher Will McDonald was also fined from the Week 1 game, receiving a $14,491 fine for a violent gesture.

The Steelers were the third-most fined team in the NFL in 2024, earning a total of $731,828 in gameday fines. The team’s most-fined player last season was wide receiver George Pickens, who was fined seven times for $90,548.

In total, 18 players were fined for over $255,000 from around the NFL in Week 1. NFL fines go to the Players Assistance Trust, an NFLPA-run program that helps retired players adjust to life after the NFL, and other NFL charitable causes.
