Steelers Tabbed as Landing Spot for All-Pro WR

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan failed to bolster the wide receiver corps in 2024, but he could correct the fatal flaw on the roster by landing a top-tier receiver in free agency this March. The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke thinks Tampa Bay Buccaneers All-Pro wide receiver Chris Godwin would be an ideal pairing for George Pickens in the Steel City.

“That’s not talking about Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation, but pairing Godwin with a deep-threat outside receiver,” Brooke wrote. “George Pickens thrives in those situations, but the lack of firepower on the rest of the Steelers’ offense has allowed opponents to shut down their No. 1 option, leading to frustration and a lack of explosive plays and points on the board.”

Godwin was on pace for one the best seasons of his career before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 7. Godwin recorded 50 receptions for 576 yards (11.5 average) and five touchdowns, an average of 82 yards and seven catches per game. He ranked second in the NFL in receiving yards at the time of his injury.

Godwin, who underwent surgery on his dislocated ankle, is expected to make a full recovery for 2025.

Godwin, 28, was selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay. In 2019, he made the Pro Bowl and was named second-team All-Pro. The following season, he played a key part in helping the Bucs win a Super Bowl title.

The Steelers currently have one of the worst wide receiver corps in the NFL. Calvin Austin III stepped up at times in 2024, but other than Austin, there’s been very little production from the secondary receivers.

If the Steelers can pair Pickens with a top-flight receiver like Godwin, things should dramatically open up for the rest of the offense. Pickens, Godwin and Austin as a trio would be a solid arsenal for whoever is the Steelers’ starting quarterback in 2025.
