LATROBE — The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a pair of injuries during their Friday Night Lights practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium on Friday, and another player sat out due to injury.

Cornerback Cory Trice suffered a hamstring injury during the practice session, head coach Mike Tomlin said. Trice was injured early in the session and was replaced at second-team cornerback by James Pierre.

Pierre, who also served as the starting punt gunner on Friday, is in competition with Trice, Brandin Echols, Beanie Bishop and seventh-round draft pick Donte Kent for the backup cornerback spots on the roster, and Trice’s injury — and history of injuries — could set him back.

“We really like Cory,” general manager Omar Khan said at the NFL Combine this spring. “The reality is that durability has been an issue.”

The other injury during practice on Friday was to tackle Calvin Anderson, who was injured late in the session. Tomlin said he was still being evaluated.

The Steelers’ offensive line has been banged up. Left guard Isaac Seumalo did not participate in any team periods and left tackle Broderick Jones only did seven shots before sitting out the rest of practice as he returns from a groin injury. With Jones limited and Anderson out, Dylan Cook finished the practice as the first-team left tackle. Spencer Anderson started in place of Seumalo at left guard.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. sat out of practice. He was in attendance in street clothes. Tomlin said he’s day to day with what Porter described as a hand injury.

Defensive linemen Esezi Otemewo (right knee) and Dean Lowry (knee) and tight end DJ Thomas-Jones (left calf/ankle) did not practice.
