Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker Alex Highsmith is hopeful his team will eventually land quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers fanbase seems to be split on whether they should still sign quarterback Aaron Rodgers with OTA’s set to kick off next week. But Steelers star linebacker Alex Highsmith would love to have the four-time NFL MVP at any point.

“If he does sign, we’re definitely gonna be really excited to have him. We know who he is. He’s a Hall of Fame quarterback. He’s one of the best to ever do it,” Highsmith said on NFL Network’s “The Insiders.” “We all know what type of quarterback he is and what he brings to the table.”

Pittsburgh’s quarterback room is arguably the worst in the NFL with Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Will Howard, the team’s sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. If it stays that way, Rudolph would likely get the first crack at the starting job.

However, Highsmith revealed the Steelers are more than confident if that’s how things play out.

“I know with Mason being there, he’s done a great job. Guys are rallying around him,” Highsmith said. “The way that he helped us finish in 2023 was awesome. No matter who is back there for us, whether it’s him or if Aaron Rodgers is gonna come, I’m just excited, and whoever’s back there, we’re gonna have their back and we’re gonna rally behind them. So just excited for whoever it’s gonna be.”

In 2023, Rudolph started the final three games of the regular season after Kenny Pickett was lost to a high-ankle sprain and Mitchell Trubisky struggled in his limited action.

He responded with the best play of his career, completing 55 of 75 passes (74.3%) for 719 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions while leading Pittsburgh to three straight victories and a playoff spot.

Still, Rudolph doesn’t move the needle as much as Rodgers would, and the Steelers know that. That’s why they have remained patient with him all offseason.

Luckily for Pittsburgh, some believe that wait will come to an end very soon.
