PITTSBURGH — Alex Highsmith is expected to return from a multi-week absence this Sunday with then Pittsburgh Steelers face the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium, but the star edge rusher was still limited in practice for the team’s second session of the week on Wednesday.
Highsmith was listed as a limited participant in the fully padded practice, in spite of head coach Mike Tomlin expressing optimism for Highsmith’s status this week. He’ll have two more chances to get to full participation before the Steelers’ AFC North opener. Nick Herbig started in each of the last two games in place of Highsmith.
Wide receiver Calvin Austin III and Jalen Ramsey did not practice on Wednesday, and appear to be on track to miss Sunday’s game, though Ramsey did stretch with the team.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and running back Jaylen Warren were both full participants in Wednesday’s session and should be good to go against the Browns, barring a setback.
One new addition to the injury report was wide receiver Ben Skowronek, who was limited in practice on Wednesday with by an illness.
Austin suffered a shoulder injury during the Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland. He was transported from Croke Park to a local hospital for testing and returned to Pittsburgh with the team. He is expected to miss some time with the injury.

Warren suffered a knee injury in Week 3 that limited him in practice in the week leading up to the team’s Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was listed as questionable and was eventually made inactive for that game.
Warren is expected to return in Week 6, and was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Porter Jr. suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 against the New York Jets. Tomlin said he was held out as a precaution, but Porter missed the team’s Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks and Week 3 game against the New England Patriots. Porter returned to practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday, Sept. 24, but still missed the Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland.
He is expected to return for Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns and was a full participant in practice on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
