Behind the Steel Curtain
As the Steelers continue their search for a new head coach, general manager Omar Khan has also began to construct the team’s offseason 90-man roster.
The Steelers announced Thursday that the team has signed wide receiver Brandon Johnson and offensive lineman Doug Nester to reserve/futures deals.
Like most of the crop of futures deals the Steelers added earlier in the week, Johnson and Nester both spent time on Pittsburgh’s practice squad in 2025.
Johnson is a veteran receiver with 23 games of NFL experience, with three of those coming with Pittsburgh in 2024. Steelers wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni called Johnson a “sneaky good player” over the summer. The 27-year-old pass catcher has 335 career receiving yards with five touchdowns.
Nester doesn’t have any NFL regular season experience, but he was a college teammate of Steelers’ center Zach Frazier at West Virginia, where he started games at both guard and tackle.
