The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another long snapper after Christian Kuntz suffered what is believed to be a broken sternum in Saturday night’s preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which would keep him out for several weeks to months.
The Steelers are signing long snapper Jake McQuaide, who tried out with the team yesterday.

McQuaide, 37, began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent in the 2011 NFL Draft. He joined the Rams, who he played for from 2011-20, appearing in all 160 regular season games through his first 10 seasons and earning two Pro Bowls nods in 2016 and 2017.
Since then, he has spent time with the Dallas Cowboys (2021-22), Detroit Lions (2023), Chicago Bears (2024), Minnesota Vikings (2024) and Miami Dolphins (2024).
McQuaide played college football at Ohio State, where he was a walk on and teammates with Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward.
During his college career, McQuaide remained as the team’s long snapper but was never able to take snaps or record any stats at the tight end position. He was a part of three Big Ten Conference championships in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
McQuaide is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.
