The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed long snapper Cal Adomitis, a Pitt and Central Catholic alum, to their practice squad, the team announced on Friday.

The Adomitis singing comes after a knee injury limited starting long snapper Christian Kuntz during the team’s practice on Thursday. Since becoming the team’s primary long snapper at the start of the 2021 season, Kuntz had not missed a game, playing in 82 consecutive contests.

Adomitis, 27, spent the last three seasons as the long snapper for the Cincinnati Bengals, having emerged as a starter after going undrafted out of Pitt in 2022. He was waived by the Bengals in August and caught on with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 30, but he was released by the Eagles on Dec. 9. Adomitis has played in 58 games over his four-year career.

Adomitis played at Pitt as a true freshman in 2017, and was part of the program’s 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and 2021 ACC Championship. After the 2021 season, Adomitis was named a first-team All-American and won the Patrick Mannelly Award as the country’s best long snapper.

The 6-foot-1, 234-pound long snapper is a bit undersized for his position, but ran well in pre-draft testing, posting a 7.92 Relative Athletic Score.

To make room for Adomitis on the practice squad, the Steelers released linebacker Kana’i Mauga. The team’s practice squad is now full with 17 members.
