The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing defensive tackle Brodric Martin from the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC.
Martin is a former third-round pick by the Detroit Lions out of Western Kentucky. He stands at 6-foot-5, 326 pounds.
As a rookie, Martin appeared in three games for Detroit. He played in two and started one game for the Lions in his second season.
On Aug. 26, 2025, Martin was waived by the Lions as part of final roster cuts. On Aug. 29, he was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad.
Martin, who has recorded 53 snaps in his career, will provided some defensive line depth for the Steelers after defensive lineman Daniel Ekuale suffered a season-ending ACL tear in Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers.
Martin played three seasons at North Alabama before transferring to Western Kentucky for his final college season. At North Alabama, he played in all 25 games, starting 16 of them. He made 81 total tackles (37 solo, 44 assisted) with nine tackles for loss and two sacks, while also adding four pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.
At Western Kentucky, Martin started all 14 games for the Hilltoppers. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama native recorded 31 tackles, including 1.5 sacks. Martin also forced a fumble, hurried the quarterback seven times throughout the year and broke up two passes.
Martin had a standout performance against Indiana when he made six tackles, 0.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry.
At the end of the year, he was named C-USA Honorable Mention and earned an invite to the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl.
Bleacher Report’s scouting report on Martin described him as a “space-eater who is impossible to move one-on-one and can create stalemates against double teams. Also, solid at turning his hips into the second blocker to get skinny and split the double.”
The biggest negative on Martin coming out of college was his pass rush moves and lack of explosiveness.
“Slow off the ball and has a habit of false stepping with his first step, which really limits his ability to win as a bull-rusher. Also, stops his feet on first contact and has high pad level,” the Bleacher Report scouting report stated.
