In a corresponding move to waiving cornerback Cameron McCutcheon on Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed defensive back Mikey Victor. Victor will wear No. 38 for the Steelers.
The Steelers are banged-up at the cornerback position now, as Cory Trice (hamstring) and rookie Donte Kent (right foot/ankle) remain sidelined.
McCutcheon was waived with an injury designation after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.
If McCutcheon clears waivers, he will revert to the team’s injured reserve list, where he can stay for the remainder of the 2025 season. Because hamstring injuries are rarely season-ending, it’s more likely that then team and McCutcheon will reach an injury settlement, and he will be released.
That will give McCutcheon the ability to return to the NFL this season. He can sign with another NFL team after he is fully healed. He would be eligible to re-sign with the Steelers after an additional six weeks have passed.
Victor played in three preseason games for the New England Patriots last year, allowing three receptions on seven targets for 33 yards while recording five tackles, according to Pro Football Focus. Victor, who signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent following the 2024 NFL Draft, was released by New England at roster cutdowns in late August.
The Steelers worked out Victor before their Wild Card game against the Baltimore Ravens in January, but he was not signed. He also participated in the Steelers rookie minicamp back in May, but again, wasn’t signed.
Victor, who’s a Pomona, Calif. native, played his college ball at UNLV and Alabama State. At his pro day, Vcitor measured at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. He recorded a 4.67 in the 40-yard dash, a 1.57 in the 10-yard dash, a 6.82 in the 3-Cone drill, and a 10’4″ broad jump.
