With the Pittsburgh Steelers decimated with injuries on the defensive line, the team has signed defensive lineman Kyler Baugh, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Baugh gets a chance with the Steelers after an impressive UFL campaign with the St. Louis Battlehawks.
Head coach Mike Tomlin announced that two more defensive linemen suffered injuries at practice on Wednesday and were unable to go on Thursday, with defensive linemen Dean Lowry and Jacob Slade both missing practice.
Tomlin had previously announced that defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo had also suffered a knee injury on Wednesday. None of the three participated in Thursday’s work.
Tomlin said that both Lowry and Slade are still being evaluated, and do not have a diagnosis or timeframe for return.
The injuries to the three defensive linemen — and a veteran off day for Cam Heyward — left the Steelers thin at the position for practice on Thursday. They had just 10 healthy defensive linemen for the practice, so outside linebackers DeMarvin Leal and Jack Sawyer each took some reps inside at times to help with the depth.
With their numbers at the position dwindling, the Steelers had tryouts back at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on Thursday, including former Seattle Seahawks fourth-round draft pick Cameron Young, Justin Rogers and Baugh.

Baugh went undrafted out of the University of Minnesota in 2024. He had NFL stints with the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and most recently with the Atlanta Falcons practice squad at the end of 2024, prior to signing with the Battlehawks.
Baugh recorded eight tackles, two sacks, and seven QB pressures with the Battlehawks.
At Minnesota, Baugh played in 26 games and made 77 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. He also broke up four passes, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble.
Baugh played his first three seasons of college ball (2019-21) at Houston Baptist, where he played in 26 career games with 18 starts and made 104 career tackles, which included 11.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. He also broke up four passes, forced a fumble and recovered another.
