UNITY TWP, Pa. — As the sun elbowed its way through the clouds after heavy rain earlier Saturday morning, the Pittsburgh Steelers battled humid, blistering heat for afternoon training camp practice. Jonnu Smith and the defense appeared not to have much of an issue with it.
The team started practice on the turf field at St. Vincent College, which provided better footing conditions, but made it even harder to stay cool. It then headed over on the grass in front of the plenty of fans in attendance for the team portion.
Jalen Ramsey, wearing a black hoodie under his gold No. 5 practice jersey and shorts over compression pants, pulled down a pass intended for the aforementioned tight end, along with blanketing DK Metcalf on an overthrown post route earlier in the session. Afterward, fellow defensive back DeShon Elliott, who Ramsey shared a brief moment with in warmups while grabbing a sip of water, spoke glowingly of Ramsey’s versatility.
Smith, meanwhile, stayed after practice longer than anyone but receiver Roman Wilson, stabbing balls from the JUGS machine. He also wore long sleeves and pants throughout, taking part in his first full session with the team.
