PITTSBURGH — Wide receiver Calvin Austin III returned to practice on Wednesday, his first session with the team since suffering a shoulder injury during the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland.
Austin’s specific injury has not been revealed, but head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that he was optimistic that Austin would be able to return this week, when the Steelers host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.
“As we stand here today, we’re optimistic,” Tomlin said.
Getting back Austin should provided a big boost for the Steelers offense as they prepare to face the 4-1-1 Packers on Sunday Night Football.
Austin has played a key role in Pittsburgh’s offense, doing his best to help fill the void wide receiver George Pickens left when he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. Through the first four games of the season, Austin recorded 10 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns.
