The Pittsburgh Steelers are scouting a matchup of two top 2026 NFL Draft quarterbacks on the final weekend of the college football season — and its two players they’ve already scouted a lot.
The Steelers have a scout at Brice-Williams Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina, where the Gamecocks and No. 23 overall prospect LaNorris Sellers are hosting their in-state rivals, the Clemson Tigers, which feature No. 68 prospect quarterback Cade Klubnik.
The Steelers are no stranger to either player, as Saturday’s game will be at least the third time they’ve scouted Sellers, previously seeing him Week 1 and Week 9, and the fifth time they’ve scouted Klubnik, having already seen him in Week 1, Week 3, Week 7 and Week 12.
Sellers has seen has draft stock fall from the very top of the class to the mid-to-late part of the first round over the course of a so-so redshirt sophomore season at South Carolina. He’s thrown for 2,056 yards and 11 touchdowns, and will almost certainly finish with worse numbers than last season, even if he has a monster day against Clemson. He’s also rushed for only 268 yards after racking up 674 yards on the ground in 2024.
With two seasons of college eligibility remaining, and his stock headed in the wrong direction, Sellers could opt to return to college instead of entering the 2026 NFL Draft, which would be a big blow to the overall class and the Steelers’ plan of trading up for a first-round quarterback.
Klubnik has also fallen well short of his 2024 marks. Entering play on Saturday, he has 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns in 10 games. He threw for 3,639 yards and 36 touchdowns in 36 games last year. The senior is out of college eligibility, and unless he opts into playing in Clemson’s bowl game (the Tigers are 6-5 entering Saturday), he will be playing his final game in purple and orange.
In August, Klubnik was the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft class, according to the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board. Since then, he fell all the way into Day Three, with his draft stock bottoming out at No. 154 in mid-November. It has since rebounded to No. 68, making Klubnik a borderline second-round pick entering Saturday’s game.
