Steelers Schedule Formal Meeting with Top RB at NFL Combine
Steelers Now Steelers Now

Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan said Tuesday morning that all options are on the table for the team’s running back position. That includes Boise State running back and Heisman Trophy runner-up Ashton Jeanty. The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler reported Tuesday that the Steelers are one of nine teams that have scheduled a formal meeting with Jeanty at the NFL Scouting Combine.

The Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Chargers, and Baltimore Ravens will also meet up with Jeanty. Jeanty won’t be taking part in drills in Indianapolis.

The following teams have formal meetings scheduled with Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty, per source:

• Giants
• Broncos
• Vikings
• Steelers
• Colts
• Bears
• Chargers
• Ravens
• Saints

Others drafting ahead of the Steelers include the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints.

“It’s a good running back class, for sure,” Khan said. “It’s an exciting group. … All options are on the table.”

Ashton Jeanty had a nation-high 2,601 rushing yards on 374 carries for the Mountain West champions this past season. He neared Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record (2,628 yards) but finished behind Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter for the stiff-arming statue.

In a mock draft earlier this month, NFL.com draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah had Jeanty sliding to the Steelers with the 21st pick of the draft. The NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board tabs Jeanty as the No. 9 player available.

“The Steelers spent the past two drafts beefing up their offensive line,” Jeremiah wrote. “Now they land a top-five player in the class to run behind it.”

Khan still hasn’t closed the door on retaining Najee Harris, who the team drafted in the first round in 2021. Harris has had four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons on the ground. Jeanty, however, would be an exciting replacement for the bruising tailback.
