PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Jabrill Peppers was unexpectedly added to the team’s injury report on Thursday.

Peppers was added to the injury report and was limited in practice on Thursday with a quad injury. His status going forward is uncertain.

Peppers had been the team’s primary backup to DeShon Elliott, who is expected to miss several weeks with a hyperextended knee. Chuck Clark, who has been starting at free safety, can also play strong safety, as can new acquisition Kyle Dugger, who had his first practice with the team on Thursday.

Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said the team is still working through its options this week for the safety position.
