Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety DeShon Elliott (knee) is currently on the injured reserve list, and it appears that he will remain on IR for the remainder of the season.
“A lot better than I was a month ago. I’m two more weeks on these crutches and back to training hard like I always do. I’ll be ready for next season,” Elliott said in an interview that was shared on KDKA’s Sunday Morning Kickoff.
Elliott suffered a knee injury in Sunday’s Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers. It was initially reported that Elliott could miss the entire 2025 season with the injury, though head coach Mike Tomlin said that he merely suffered a hyperextended knee and was considered week to week.
Elliott was eligible to be reinstated for the Steelers’ Week 13 game against the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 30, though his 21-day window did not start.
Elliott had been one of the lone bright spots for a beleaguered Steelers secondary this year. In five games, he has 38 tackles, one tackle for loss, three quarterback hits, two passes defended, a forced fumble and an interception.
The Steelers traded for veteran safety Kyle Dugger last month to replace Elliott. He’s been solid at the strong safety position opposite of free safety Jalen Ramsey.
Elliott opened a food pantry for local kids in Swissvale earlier this week. It aims to provide meals and snacks to students in need during the holidays.
“Just being able to give back at this time of the year feels really good. Holidays, whether it’s Thanksgiving or Christmas, kids are always appreciative and I love to know I put a smile on their face,” Elliott told WPXI.
Along with the pantry, Elliott personally hand-delivers meals and groceries to students’ homes in the neighborhood.
