Steelers Safety Blasts Aaron Rodgers: ‘Leave His Ass at the Retirement Home’
Steelers Now Steelers Now

To say the least, Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety DeShon Elliott is not a fan of the idea of future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers coming to Pittsburgh.

Commenting on an Instagram post that speculated that Rodgers could land in Pittsburgh, Elliott wrote, “Leave his ass at the retirement home.”

It’s unclear why Elliott is not a fan of Rodgers, whether it’s because of his age or controversial personality, but that’s a pretty eye-opening statement.

According to betting odds posted by sportsbettinghe.ag, the 41-year-old quarterback could very well be suiting up for the Steelers soon.

The website lists the Steelers as having even odds to add Rodgers, who went 6-12 in 18 starts with the Jets. Following Pittsburgh are San Francisco (3/1), New Orleans (5/1), Las Vegas (7/1), Seattle and Cleveland (10/1), and the New York Giants (12/1).

In 2024, the 41-year-old Rodgers played in 16 games, completing 368 of 584 passes (63.0%) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 90.5 passer rating.

For comparison, the 36-year-old Russell Wilson has played 11 games, completing 214 of 316 passes (63.7%) for 2,482, 16 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 95.6 passer rating.

Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer reported on Sunday that the Jets are moving on from Rodgers.

“Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him,” Glazer wrote on X. “If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue to play.”

The fact that Rodgers was interested in hashing things out with the Jets likely means he wants to play on, Glazer added. Rodgers is 41 years old and would be entering his 21st season as a professional. Since winning his fourth NFL MVP in 2021, he is 14-21 as a starter.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter said the same day that Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both remain in the mix to return to the Steelers next season. The latter, he said, has a market that includes interest from other teams. The Steelers would be going in an entirely different direction by bringing in Aaron Rodgers instead.

Rodgers sports the lowest career interception percentage (1.4%) in NFL history, though his pick totals in his last two full seasons are among the highest of his career.

Rodgers and Tomlin have been complimentary of one another in the past, but that was before Rodgers’ messy exit from Green Bay and several subsequent other controversies, including deception about being vaccinated for COVID-19 and skipping mandatory minicamp with the Jets this spring.

“I’m a big Mike Tomlin fan,” Rodgers said in 2021. “I have been for a long time....
