A Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver is ready to build upon his case to make the team’s 53-man roster.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for another wide receiver to step up opposite DK Metcalf in their offense. One of their rookies is starting to make a case that could be him.

Undrafted rookie wide receiver Roc Taylor has stacked a few impressive training camp practices, and he believes that’s only going to continue as the game slows down for him.

“Things are slowing down, for sure,” Taylor said. “Just trying to pick up the offense and learn the splits and terminology that they use. So it’s starting to slow down for me a lot.”

Taylor has come a long way since rookie minicamp in May. He credits his recent success to having the opportunity to learn from the veterans around him over the past few months.

“Just mainly film and watching the vets, taking mental reps,” he said. “That’s mainly it.”

Taylor will get his first shot to not only prove he should make the Steelers’ 53-man roster, but also be considered as their No. 2 outside wide receiver when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in their first preseason game.

He should get plenty of opportunities as Pittsburgh needs to figure out its pecking order past Metcalf. The team must also sort through wide receivers Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Scotty Miller, Ben Skowronek and Brandon Johnson.

Taylor has a strong case, though. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound wide receiver racked up 163 receptions for 2,375 yards and seven touchdowns during his four years at Memphis.

If he can continue translating his play to the next level, the Steelers will have to find a role for him.
