One of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookies is learning from one of the best running backs of the last decade.

Expectations continue to rise for Pittsburgh Steelers third-round rookie running back Kaleb Johnson, and he’s doing everything he can this offseason to reach them.

Johnson recently revealed that he plans to train with former Steelers All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell.

“I talked to him the other day and our connection’s great,” Johnson said on Up & Adams. “He wanted to workout with me and work on the stuff that I want to work on.”

Bell is not only one of the Steelers’ best running backs of the last decade but of the entire league. From 2013-17, he rushed for 5,336 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also recorded 312 catches for 2,660 yards and seven more scores during the span.

It just so happens that Johnson has already received comparisons to Bell, too. Bell was one of the most instinctive players in the NFL — a trait that many believe Johnson also has.

“Just overall, his patience,” Johnson said. “He runs at his own pace. So it’s kind of weird, but it worked.”

Johnson does have the chance to be a special player at the next level. He is coming off a breakout season in 2024, when he rushed for 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry at Iowa. He also recorded 22 catches for 188 yards and two more scores.

The 21-year-old is also a bigger back, standing at 6-foot-1, 224 pounds, but he put his speed on display last season when he reached 22 miles per hour per GPS measurements on field, which has only been done by a handful of NFL players.

Only time will tell if Johnson will have similar success in the NFL as Bell did, but he has taken the first step to doing just that by learning from him.
