Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard reveals that he would love to play with Aaron Rodgers in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh Steelers sixth-round rookie Will Howard has a chance to be their starting quarterback this season with just Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson currently on the team. But he wouldn’t mind sitting behind four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, either.
“Idolizing, growing up,” Howard said on the “Up & Adams Show.” “I don’t know what’s going to happen, who knows. That’s all over my head, but I’d love to be in a room and learn from him.”
It remains to be seen if and when Rodgers plans to make a decision, but many believe that is coming sooner rather than later as he and the Steelers have reportedly remained in constant contact.
That would be a dream scenario for Pittsburgh and Howard. The team already revealed it would like to take its time to develop Howard and signing Rodgers would allow it to do just that while still competing in 2025.
Howard would then be set up with the best chance to succeed at the next level and be the type of quarterback the Steelers need.
“They need a gritty guy,” Howard said. “Growing up, for me, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was Big Ben. He was that guy. He was Pittsburgh. He was the Steel City, blue collar, the gritty guy. I want to be that, too. I want to bring that edge, that energy, and I think I did a pretty good job at it at Ohio State. I like to pride myself on that and try to bring it to the Steel City.”
Only time will tell whether Howard will be that, but he is bringing championship pedigree to Pittsburgh after leading the Buckeyes to a College Football National Championship in 2024.
During that span, Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and rushed for 226 yards and seven more scores.
