PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers undrafted rookie Ke’Shawn Williams headed to the locker room during the opening quarter of Sunday’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Williams, a punt and kick returner, headed down the stairs behind the Steelers’ bench and into the locker room to be checked for a concussion. He hadn’t returned to the sideline as of Zac Taylor challenging a tush push first down with 1:37 to go in the initial frame and was ruled out shortly thereafter.

Williams, 23, has played in six games for the Steelers this season, totaling 112 yards on 11 punt returns and 271 yards on 11 kicks brought back.

D’Shawn Jamison replaced Williams on the Bengals’ next kickoff, bringing it back 20 yards after lining up to the right of Kenneth Gainwell, who had scored the first points of the game on an 11-yard reception earlier in the quarter.

Calvin Austin III took over as the Steelers’ punt returner.

Williams was Indiana’s fourth-leading receiver last season, hauling in 39 passes for 448 yards and five touchdowns. The Hoosiers’ top receiver from a year ago, Elijah Sarratt, is still playing for Curt Cignetti. As is Omar Cooper Jr., who followed him. Myles Price had 18 more receiving yards than Williams did and is now with the Minnesota Vikings.

Williams had taken over kick return duties from fellow rookie Kaleb Johnson, whose Week 2 gaffe against the Seattle Seahawks was costly.
