A rookie cornerback of the Pittsburgh Steelers believes he wouldn’t be where he’s already at without one of the team’s vets.

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie cornerback Daylen Everette has been turning heads during the early portions of the offseason program, but he recently revealed why he’s been able to have so much success thus far.

Everette attributes his work against Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf.

“[Metcalf] is a big physical guy, so going against someone like him, it can help me to guard anyone else,” Everette said via Brooke Pryor of ESPN. “I enjoy going against him because I know it’s helping me get better.”

It’s quite impressive that Everette has held his own against Metcalf, who led the Steelers with 850 receiving yards and six touchdowns last season.

However, Pittsburgh was high on Everette, selecting him with its second third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, and now, he’s proving the team right with that decision.

Everette appeared in 55 games for the Georgia Bulldogs, recording 149 tackles (106 solo), one sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, five interceptions and 24 passes defended.

In 2025, he appeared and started in 13 games and was named Associated Press All-SEC First Team.

However, Everette’s track to playing in 2026 does look a bit cloudy in a crowded cornerback room that also has Joey Porter Jr., Jamel Dean, Jalen Ramsey and Asante Samuel Jr.

If Everette continues to impress during training camp, the Steelers may just have to find a role for him, though.

Everette stands at 6-foot-1, 196 pounds. He has 31 7/8″ arms and 9 5/8″ hands. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he ran a blazing-fast 4.38-second 40-yard dash and a 1.54-second 10-yard split. He also posted a 37.5’’ vertical jump and 10’ 4’’ broad jump.

He scored a 9.89 Relative Athletic Score (RAS) out of a possible 10.00, which ranked 34 out of 3068 cornerbacks from 1987 to 2026.
