PITTSBURGH — The revenge tour continues for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
After going into The Meadowlands to beat the New York Jets with ex-Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, the Steelers with former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf, will host the Seahawks in Pittsburgh in Week 2.
Metcalf, like Rodgers, has minimized his feelings about the revenge game in his remarks this week.
“Y’all gonna make it a big deal, but I’m not,” Metcalf told reporters on Wednesday.
Rodgers similarly downplayed going into New York ahead of the game against the Jets, but was certainly more verbose after the Pittsburgh victory.
“I was happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets,” he said after the win.
We’ll see if Metcalf takes the same tact if the Steelers win, but it’s pretty obvious that he’d like to remind his old team what they’re missing out on.
“Common sense would tell you that it certainly does,” Tomlin said. “They drafted him. He played there a number of years.”
It’s been obvious to his teammates watching him prepare that Metcalf wants to win this one pretty badly.
“DK is always the same, but I know his mentality is going to be to get after them guys,” cornerback Darius Slay said. “Because that’s just what he’s known for doing anyway, but I think he might have a little extra boost, for sure. I always have an extra boost when I go against Detroit.”
If that’s the case, the Steelers might be in for a strong season. Even after Rodgers’ return to New York and Metcalf’s get-back game against the Seahawks, they have a few grudge matches left on their upcoming schedule:
Sept. 21 vs. New England Patriots (Jabrill Peppers)
Oct. 12 vs. Cleveland Browns (Juan Thornhill)
Oct. 26 vs. Green Bay Packers (Rodgers)
Dec. 15 vs. Miami Dolphins (Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith)
