PITTSBURGH — With DeShon Elliott sidelined with a knee injury, fellow safety Chuck Clark made the start for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
Clark trotted out alongside fellow veterans Juan Thornhill, Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay. Regular starting cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was inactive along with Elliott.
In the Steelers’ 34-32 win over the New York Jets last week, Clark had eight combined tackles, tied for second-most with Alex Highsmith and Patrick Queen. Thornhill paced the team with nine total tackles, but Clark’s six solo stops were the most of any Steelers defender.
Clark spent the first six seasons of his career with the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens. He played in 96 games for John Harbaugh’s team, making 63 starts. During that time, he racked up 384 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, five interceptions, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
“Highly familiar with his intangibles,” Tomlin said of Clark after the Steelers added him. “He’s got a really good relationship with the game. He’s a hard worker. He’s a really good communicator. His football character comes highly recommended.”
Clark did his part in replacing Elliott against the Jets, as well, with a roving Jalen Ramsey helping out, as well. The Steelers added former New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers to the secondary this week.
Peppers also began his career with a Steelers division rival in the Cleveland Browns. He also played for the New York Giants and has 85 career starts to his name. He played in six games for New England last season, notching 40 tackles and an interception.
