The Pittsburgh Steelers announced what jersey number quarterback Aaron Rodgers will wear for the 2025 season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers revealed quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ jersey number, and it’s not the one he’s worn for most of his NFL career.
Rodgers will wear No. 8 with the Steelers for the 2025 season after officially signing his contract on Saturday.

Rodgers wore No. 12 with the Green Bay Packers for the first 18 years of his NFL career, but that number has been unofficially retired by Pittsburgh. It was last worn by Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who led the Steelers to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s.
The 41-year-old’s second choice was likely No. 8 after he wore it for the past two seasons with the New York Jets and during his two years at the University of California.
There was one issue, however. No. 8 was already owned by Pittsburgh punter Corliss Waitman, who stepped in for the injured Cameron Johnston last season.
The Steelers re-signed Waitman this offseason as insurance, and it’s likely he just got another payday from Rodgers to give up No. 8.
Rodgers will now look to bring No. 8 into some better light at quarterback since it was the same number worn by Kenny Pickett from 2022-23. Pickett was dealt to the Philadelphia Eagles last season after requesting a trade and is now a member of the Cleveland Browns.
The four-time NFL MVP is coming off a disappointing season in 2024 after leading the Jets to a 5-12 finish. But he still proved to have some good football left in him while throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
