New Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is wearing a familiar number.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad, and it has since been revealed what jersey number he’ll wear.

Valdes-Scantling will don the No. 11 jersey with the Steelers, joining the long list of wide receivers to do so in Pittsburgh.

Wide receiver Brandon Johnson was the last Steelers player to wear No. 11. He spent the 2024 and 2025 offseason with Pittsburgh before being waived with an injury settlement in August.

There have been several other notable wide receivers who have worn No. 11 with the Steelers, too, including Van Jefferson, Allen Robinson, Chase Claypool, Donte Moncrief and Markus Wheaton.

None panned out the way Pittsburgh hoped they would, but the team is certainly hoping Valdes-Scantling can change that after deciding to not acquire a legitimate No. 2 wide receiver at the NFL trade deadline.

Valdes-Scantling is an intriguing player, especially given his connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The two were teammates in Green Bay for four seasons, and in 2020, Valdes-Scantling set career highs in receiving yards (690) and touchdowns (six) while making 12 starts. He also had a career high 20.9 yards per catch that season.

Rodgers also seems to believe Valdes-Scantling has plenty of gas left in the tank.

“I love MVS. I’ve always enjoyed playing with him,” Rodgers said. “He’s one of my favorite teammates of all-time. He is a really special guy, and I think MVS can still really play. You saw last year when he was in New Orleans, he had opportunities. He had a lot of big touchdowns. He could still run.”

Only time will tell if that’s the case, but Valdes-Scantling will likely be relied on sooner rather than later while wearing the number he wore during his collegiate career at South Florida.

A fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Packer, Valdes-Scantling has 209 catches for 3,606 yards and 20 touchdowns in his professional career.
