The Pittsburgh Steelers have dwindled down their defensive line room ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. deadline.
The Pittsburgh Steelers announced they are releasing defensive lineman Kyler Baugh as part of their second wave of cuts.
Baugh, 23, joined the Steelers this offseason after they were decimated with injuries along their defensive line. Defensive linemen Dean Lowry, Jacob Slade, and Esezi Otomewo were all dealing with injuries while Cam Heyward was also holding in as he was looking for a new contract.
However, once Pittsburgh was able to get healthier, it became clear that Baugh was not going to make the 53-man roster. He didn’t do much during the preseason, either, recording just two tackles and one sack.
Baugh went undrafted out of the University of Minnesota in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had NFL stints with the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and most recently with the Atlanta Falcons practice squad at the end of 2024, prior to signing with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the UFL.
He recorded eight tackles, two sacks and seven QB pressures with the Battlehawks.
At Minnesota, Baugh played in 26 games and made 77 tackles, seven tackles for a loss and four sacks. He also broke up four passes, forced one fumble and recovered one fumble.
Baugh played his first three seasons of college ball (2019-21) at Houston Baptist, where he played in 26 career games with 18 starts and made 104 career tackles, which included 11 tackles for a loss and five sacks. He also broke up four passes, forced a fumble and recovered another.
