In a corresponding move on Monday, the Steelers released Lance McCutcheon who made the practice squad after a strong preseason.
As the season heads into week two, the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to make roster moves. Today, they notably made a change at receiver on the practice squad. After signing Rakim Jarrett on Monday, the Steelers released Lance McCutcheon in a corresponding move.
McCutcheon, who joined the Pittsburgh’s’ practice squad last year, made several plays throughout the preseason. Most notably, he caught the lone touchdown by Pittsburgh in the 2025 preseason finale.
Despite his strong preseason, he was on the outside looking in when cuts came around. However, he was brought back to the practice squad once waivers cleared after the cutdown deadline.
The former Montana State product was always going to have an uphill battle to see a chance on a game-day roster. Pittsburgh got production from their entire receiver corps and tight ends in their win against the New York Jets on Sunday.
After going undrafted in 2022, McCutcheon joined the Los Angeles Rams. He saw 10 games active but didn’t register an offensive statistic. Instead, he played most special teams and recorded two tackles.
Since his rookie year, he has had stints with the Houston Texans and New York Jets before joining Pittsburgh last November.
