The Steelers had a busy victory Tuesday after defeating the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football to close out Week 15.

Per Steelers Now’s Alan Saunders and the NFL transaction sheet, Pittsburgh released quarterback/wide receiver John Rhys Plumlee.

Plumlee was in his third stint with the Steelers. The versatile former undrafted free agent notably imitated Caleb Williams in practice ahead of Pittsburgh’s earlier game against the Bears this season.

Additionally, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, Pittsburgh met with 10 players on Tuesday, including nine workouts and one visit. After releasing Ke’Shawn Williams and Plumlee from their practice squad over the last two days, the Steelers have two open spots on their practice squad.

Headlining the tryouts were tight end J.J. Galbreath, who was part of Pittsburgh’s 2025 undrafted free agent class, and Hendon Hooker, a former 2023 third-round pick by the Detroit Lions — the Steelers’ upcoming opponent.

Rounding out the list were tight end Colin Granger, quarterback Jack Plummer, linebacker Brandon Smith, running backs Tre Stewart, Ian Wheeler, and Jordan Waters, and wide receivers Chris Tyree and Johnny Johnson.

The Steelers haven’t announced any immediate signings following the tryouts.
