The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed quarterback Logan Woodside to their practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday.

Woodside had been with the team during training camp, but was among the team’s cuts down to a 53-man roster in August.

He was re-signed after Skylar Thompson was placed on the injured reserve list on Wednesday. Thompson suffered a hamstring injury in practice last week.

Woodside was first added to the Pittsburgh roster after Steelers rookie Will Howard broke his pinky finger during a training camp practice and unable to take part in any preseason games for the team. Howard remains on the injured reserve list and must remain there until at least Week 6.

For now, the Steelers have only three quarterbacks available to them: starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Mason Rudolph on the 53-man roster and Woodside on the practice squad.

This preseason with the Steelers, Woodside completed 8 of 15 passes for 83 yards and an interception. He had a passer rating of 41.8.

Woodside previously spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons and the Alliance of American Football’s San Antonio Commanders. The Bengals selected him in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but he never played a game for them, even after rejoining Cincinnati last season.

As a collegian at Toledo, Woodside was named the Mid-American Conference’s MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2017.

Woodside wore No. 6 with the Steelers in training camp and preseason, but has switched to No. 16 as a member of the practice squad.
