The Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster move on Tuesday, the team announced, re-signing offensive lineman Max Scharping to a one-year contract ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Scharping was originally signed by the Steelers in October 2024 off of the Washington Commanders’ practice squad. After appearing in two games and seven offensive snaps last season with the black and gold, he’s back for another year.

Scharping was drafted in 2019 by the Houston Texans. He was a second-round pick who played college football at Northern Illinois. Before landing in Pittsburgh, he’s bounced around the league with stints in Cincinnati, Philadelphia, and Washington. Scharping has the versatility to play tackle even if he’s been listed at guard for his entire NFL career.

The signing marks the second veteran depth lineman the Steelers have signed this offseason after offensive tackle Calvin Anderson was brought back on a two-year deal on April 7.

Notably, the Steelers haven’t shown much interest at offensive line ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, with just one pre-draft visit, a local one, with an O-lineman this draft cycle: West Virginia’s Wyatt Milum.
