How much will it take for the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin?
Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin requested a trade amid contract negotiations last month. So what would it take to land the two-time Pro Bowler?
According to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic, a potential trade package proposal would be second-year wide receiver Roman Wilson and a 2026 third-round pick in exchange for McLaurin.
“If the Steelers want to give Aaron Rodgers the best chance to make a run in what could be his final season, the biggest bet they could make would be a dynamic receiving threat behind DK Metcalf,” DeFabo wrote. “For more than a year, there have been questions surrounding the WR2 position. Right now, the team seems interested in seeing how two receivers on rookie contracts — Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson — fill that role. McLaurin would be an instant and massive upgrade, signaling the Steelers really are ‘all in’ for Rodgers.”
McLaurin, 29, would give the Steelers one of the best wide receiver duos in the league. Since entering the league as a third-round pick in 2019, he has recorded 460 catches for 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns.
However, Pittsburgh is going to have to give up more than just a pick and player. McLaurin is also seeking a new contract similar to that of Metcalf’s.
“I know there’s some talk out there that McLaurin is looking for that identical contract of DK Metcalf,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic said on Scoop City. “I heard there’s parts of that contract that he’s looking for, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the exact APY.”
That’s a lot of money tied up at the same position, but the investment for McLaurin could still be worth the gamble, especially with a rookie quarterback likely to be added to the Steelers roster next offseason as well.
“The veteran WR could also help at the beginning of a rookie QB window on a short, two-year extension worth $30 million per year,” DeFabo added.
