Having acted as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ president since 2003, Art Rooney II has overseen a pair of Super Bowl titles, continuing his family’s legacy in running the franchise. He doesn’t intend on stopping any time soon, he told WPXI’s Jenna Harner in a sit-down interview she posted on her X account Thursday.
“You know, I don’t have a timeline on it,” Rooney said. “My grandfather never retired, my father never retired, so I’m hoping to follow in their footsteps. Look, my son’s involved in the business now, and potentially other family members will be involved, so we’ll see how it goes.”
I asked Steelers President Art Rooney II how much longer he sees himself in his current role.

Rooney turned 72 in September. He has been the team’s president since 2003 and its primary owner since 2017. His father, Dan Rooney, served as the team’s president from 1975-2002 and primary owner from 1988-2016. His grandfather, Art Rooney Sr., founded the team in 1933 and served as chairman and owner until his death in 1988.
His son, Daniel Martin Rooney, has been involved with the team for years, first as an assistant coach and a member of the front office, and more recently as the team’s director of business development and strategy.
Pittsburgh went 10-7 this season, exiting the playoffs in the first round with a disappointing loss to bitter rival Baltimore. Rooney isn’t interested in making any widespread changes to the team, however. He’s sticking with longtime head coach Mike Tomlin. He’d also prefer to bring back one of the two quarterbacks that started for the Steelers this go-round.
