The Pittsburgh Steelers could add a former AFC North rival to quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ arsenal of weapons.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking to add a No. 2 wide receiver since trading George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May. Some believe the Steelers could do just that in the form of one of their former AFC North rivals.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report names Pittsburgh a logical landing spot for free-agent wide receiver Amari Cooper.
“Cooper would be a sensible target for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are going all-in on the 2025 season with quarterback Aaron Rodgers,” Knox writes. “Pittsburgh acquired wideout DK Metcalf early in the offseason but also traded receiver George Pickens after the draft.”
Cooper, 31, is coming off arguably the worst season of his NFL career. In 2024, he recorded a career-low 44 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns while spending time with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills.
However, neither situation last season was ideal for Cooper. The Browns had a carousel of quarterbacks in and out of the lineup, and when he was eventually traded to the Bills, he spent the rest of the year playing catch-up in an unfamiliar offense.
Cooper will unfortunately have to do the same the longer he is without a team, but the sooner he can land somewhere, the better he’ll be equipped to carve out a role for himself.
While Cooper’s sudden drop off is somewhat concerning, just a couple of years ago he put up back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
Only time will tell if he can get back on track in 2025 with the right team, but that could prove to be the Steelers if they are unable to land another significant playmaker to play across Metcalf.
Cooper, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, has 711 receptions for 10,033 yards and 64 touchdowns in his 10-year NFL career.
