The Steelers’ initial 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 regular season was announced today, and surprisingly, only eight defensive backs made the cut.

However, one of the cornerbacks who missed a roster spot, Cory Trice Jr., could circle back to the team later this year.

The 2023 seventh-rounder has been placed on injured reserve to start the season with a return designation. He’s eligible to return after four games.

Trice has struggled with injuries throughout his football career, tearing an ACL in 2021 in college, and then the other ACL in his rookie year with the Steelers in 2023. He also missed nearly all of 2024 with a hamstring injury, and then didn’t play in the 2025 preseason due to a soft tissue injury.

Trice has appeared in just six career NFL games with one start, but he already has an interception to his name.
