The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed veteran offensive tackle Calvin Anderson (knee) on injured reserve, the team announced on Wednesday. Anderson will be out for at least the next four games. In a corresponding move, the Steelers signed offensive tackle Dylan Cook to the active roster from the practice squad.
Anderson was listed as limited at last Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury. He had played during the team’s Week 13 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, but appeared in just one snap of special teams — the Steelers’ only scrimmage kick, when Chris Boswell drilled a first-half extra point to give the team an early lead. He did not appear to suffer any obvious injury on that play, and it’s unclear when he was injured. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did not mention Anderson in his injury rundown either after the game or on Tuesday at his weekly press conference.
The Steelers were already down one tackle, as starting left tackle Broderick Jones will miss at least the next two weeks, and likely the remainder of the 2025 season, after suffering a neck injury against the Chicago Bears in Week 12.
Veteran guard/tackle Andrus Peat moved to left tackle to replace Jones, and he left Sunday’s game against the Ravens with a concussion. Cook played13 offensive snaps in relief of Peat, and was impressive in his limited snaps.
During his Tuesday press conference, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave Cook high praise for his standout performance against Baltimore.
“You’re excited for a guy when he gets an opportunity to play. He certainly has worked hard and has been professional. I loved his mindset when he went in, happy for him,” Tomlin said. “He may get another opportunity this week, we’ll see where this week leads us.”
Anderson first joined the Steelers in the middle of the 2024 season and he re-signed with the team in the 2025 offseason on a two-year deal. He appeared in four games last season and nine so far this year. He made his biggest contribution for the team in 2024, when he appeared in 29 offensive snaps in the playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens after an injury to left tackle Dan Moore.
