The Pittsburgh Steelers are a quarterback short at OTAs. Aaron Rodgers, long rumored to be the team’s preferred passer for this season, still hasn’t signed, leaving Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson to get their reps in.

General manager Omar Khan has made it known that his team will have four signal-callers by the time training camp gets underway. Tight end Pat Freiermuth isn’t sweating it just yet.

“I mean, I just take it day by day. You know, it is what it is,” Freiermuth said. “Just trying to put my head down and be a leader for this offense. We got a lot of new faces on this team, and I’m just trying to uphold the standard that I learned from older guys when I was here. So there’s a lot of other things I can be doing than worrying about who’s gonna be our quarterback.”

Pat Freiermuth had a team-leading 65 receptions last year. He had the most receiving yards (653) of any pass-catcher who returns this season, being that George Pickens (900) was shipped to Dallas earlier this month.

“I mean, I’m not really thinking about it too much,” Freiermuth said. “If it’s more of a role for me, great. I’m fully capable of picking up that role. But if we add another guy, great. I mean, obviously it’s a long way from camp, long way from the season. We’ll see if people end up coming or whatever, but we’re excited about the guys we have now.”

That wideout group includes newly-acquired DK Metcalf, as well as Roman Wilson, who hardly played during his rookie season but is expected to take a big step this time around.
