Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth did something for the first time in over 75 years.
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth had a very quiet start to his 2025 season, but that all changed against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7, and he made a little franchise history while doing so.
In the Steelers’ 33-31 loss to the Bengals, Freiermuth led the team with five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the team’s first tight end to have two touchdowns and 100-plus receiving yards in the same game since Elbie Nickel in 1953, according to Steelers Depot.
Pat Freiermuth (@patfreiermuth88) did something against the Bengals that Heath Miller, Eric Green and Bennie Cunningham never did — he became the first Steelers TE since Elbie Nickel in 1953 to have two TDs and 100+ receiving yards in the same game, per @SteelersPRDept

It was exactly the type of game Freiermuth needed as he entered the matchup on pace to have the worst statistical season of his career with just eight catches for 76 yards and zero touchdowns on the year.
However, Freiermuth’s breakout performance gave him his confidence back and Pittsburgh the chance it needed to win the game.
Trailing 20-10 late in the third quarter, he caught a 19-yard touchdown pass down the middle of the field.
However, that wasn’t even Freiermuth’s biggest play of the game. He then gave the Steelers a 31-30 lead on an impressive 68-yard touchdown with just 2:31 left in the game.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to help the Steelers escape with the win as quarterback Joe Flacco and the Bengals offense were able to score the game winning field goal with just seven seconds left in the game. But Pittsburgh is certainly hoping this is a good sign of what’s to come from Freiermuth the rest of the season.
A second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Freiermuth has recorded 233 receptions for 2,377 yards and 20 touchdowns in his professional career.
