The Pittsburgh Steelers have released offensive lineman Aiden Williams from their practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. In a corresponding move, they signed linebacker Jon Rhattigan.
Wide receiver Lance McCutcheon also replaces Robert Woods on the practice squad. Woods was released on Tuesday.
Williams was waived as the Steelers made their final cuts to the 53-man roster limit last Tuesday. He cleared waivers on Wednesday, but did not re-sign with the team until Thursday.
An undrafted rookie out of Division II Minnesota-Duluth, Williams started his collegiate career as a tight end before moving to tackle. With the Steelers, he made the transition to guard, where he played in the team’s first preseason game before a left knee injury kept him out for the rest of the preseason.
Williams played 54 snaps in the open against the Jacksonville Jaguars, all at right guard. He had 32 pass-block snaps and allowed just one pressure, per Pro Football Focus, giving him a pass blocking efficiency of 98.3.
After the injury, Williams did not return to practice until Monday’s session right before he was released.
The Steelers first scouted the 6-foot-5, 314-pound native of Anchorage, Alaska at the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl.
Williams suffered a left knee injury during the team’s preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars — a game where the rookie was acquitting himself nicely.
