The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive line will make or break their season. Although Pittsburgh emerged victorious from their Week 1 contest, the offensive line play remains a big question mark, and their young left tackle Broderick Jones is at the forefront of those questions.
It was undoubtedly a rough game for Jones, who is getting his first chance to play his natural position at left tackle this season after being drafted in the first round in 2023. Jones spoke to the media on Wednesday and did not hold back, addressing his performance.
“I can’t put that on tape. I know that,” he said. “Everybody knows that. So you know we just can’t have that performance again.”
Jones was asked a follow-up question asking why he thought the game went the way it did for him.
“I really don’t know, honestly,” Jones said. “Felt like I prepared the right way, my mind was in it the whole time. Just a bad game honestly, so you know just got to continue to grow from it.”
Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers came to the defense of his left tackle on Wednesday, claiming he ran into several sacks. Rodgers expressed confidence in Jones moving forward.
Having the support of the quarterback and acknowledging the problem is a good start for Jones, but he, along with the offensive line, will have to play better if the Steelers want to win their first playoff game since 2016.
Jones will make his next start against a Seattle team that only recorded one sack against San Francisco last week.
