The oddsmakers don’t have high hopes for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to end their two-game losing streak against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 9, but the oddsmakers aren’t so sure their luck will continue.
The Steelers have opened up as 3-point underdogs for their game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday Night Football, according to odds posted by DraftKings Sportsbook. Pittsburgh has a +138 money line, and the over/under total for the game is 44.5 points.
It’s a bit surprising given how both teams looked on Sunday. The Steelers were dominate against the AFC’s No. 1 seed while recording five sacks and forcing six turnovers.
The Chargers, on the other hand, struggled against the 1-8 Tennessee Titans out of the gate. Los Angeles was able to turn things around in the second half and escape with a 27-20 win, but it did come at a cost.
Late in the second quarter, Chargers starting left tackle Joe Alt suffered an injury and had to be carted off the field. Following further evaluation, Alt is believed to have suffered another high ankle sprain and it could require a procedure to repair, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.
Alt will undergo an MRI on Monday to confirm the diagnosis on the same right ankle he injured earlier this season against the New York Giants. Barring the MRI coming back better than expected, Alt will likely be sidelined this week.
That bodes bad news for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, who already lost his other starting offensive tackle Rashawn Slater earlier in the year.
Los Angeles selected Alt with the No. 5 overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame and he has lived up to expectations thus far.
In 285 snaps on offense this season, Alt has allowed just one sack and been penalized once, per Pro Football Focus.
With Alt sidelined, the Chargers will likely turn to veteran offensive tackle Austin Deculus, a sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
