The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up to face the New England Patriots on the road in Foxborough, and hoping to avoid a 1-2 start. And while Pittsburgh gets ready for the AFC matchup, they will be doing so without one of their offensive linemen.

Max Scharping is out for the season with a torn ACL. Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that Scharping suffered a knee injury that Pittsburgh feared was serious.

“Steelers interior OL Max Scharping suffered a knee injury during today’s practice and the fear is that it’s significant,” Rapoport reports. “He’ll have an MRI to confirm the severity. A tough reality for a key depth piece for Pittsburgh.”

Rapoport followed up on Thursday to confirm it was indeed a torn ACL.

Scharping was one of the top backups for Pittsburgh’s offensive line.
