Out of all of Aaron Rodgers’ receiving options, his first completion went to Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Spencer Anderson against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. Anderson, who was a tackle eligible on the play, caught a pass from Rodgers in the flat for four yards.

Anderson is the first Steelers offensive lineman to catch a pass since Alejandro Villanueva caught a touchdown from Chris Boswell on a fake field goal against Denver in 2018.

The Steelers have utilized Anderson in the jumbo package (six offensive lineman) since their Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The package has provided a boost for the Steelers in the run game.

After flashing in the preseason last season, Anderson made the Steelers 53-man roster as a swing interior offensive lineman. Versatility was his calling card as a prospect, having played across the line but the Steelers seem to like him best at guard which is where he’s worked most recently.

Due to injuries, Anderson got the chance to start for the first month of the season but he looked overmatched for the jump in competition.

Anderson bounced back when filling in for Mason McCormick in the Steelers’ wild card loss to the Baltimore Ravens, however.

That solid performance has carried over into the 2025 season, and he’s building a niche as the Steelers’ sixth offensive lineman.

The Steelers drafted Anderson out of the University of Maryland with the 251st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

After making the Steelers initial 53-man active roster due to his versatility, Anderson stayed on the roster all year as the team’s eight offensive lineman. Anderson played one offensive snap in the each of the team’s games against the Baltimore Ravens. He made his NFL Debut in Week 4 against the Houston Texans, logging two snaps on special teams.
