Steelers Nation is expected to take over the Meadowlands on Sunday for the Pittsburgh Steelers season opener against the New York Jets. According to Vivid Seats’ fan forecast, 48% of MetLife Stadium will be Steelers fans.
Steelers fans usually takeover western venues in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Arizona and Houston. Southern cities likes Atlanta, Charlotte, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay are also usually filled with Black and Gold supporters.
The Jets have not been good in recent years, but it is a bit surprising that Vivid Seats is projecting a poor showing for Jets fans, especially considering it’s a home opener.
Steelers fans are all over the nation, but a drive to MetLife Stadium for fans from the Pittsburgh area is reasonable. Pittsburgh to East Rutherford, N.J. is 369 miles, about a six-hour drive.
On Vivid Seats, an average ticket for a the Steelers-jets game is approximately $161, as of Tuesday.
At DraftKings Sportsbook, the Steelers are currently 3-point favorites over the Jets. The over/under is 38.5 points.
The Week 1 showdown between the Steelers and Jets has a slew of headlines. Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers returns to MetLife Stadium after a nasty breakup with the Jets organization. Jets QB Justin Fields will also be out for revenge on the Steelers.
Rodgers is not afraid to speak his mind, especially when someone crosses him. That was the case with the Jets this offseason when they released the four-time NFL MVP. How the Jets handled the whole situation did not sit well with Rodgers.
“That’s the way it goes sometimes,” Rodgers told Kyle Brandt of NFL Network at training camp when asked about the Steelers facing the Jets in Week 1. “Did they have any inside information? I don’t know. Who were they talking to? I don’t know. But, start off with the Jets, then play Seattle, where DK (Metcalf) just came from… But I’m excited. Get to play the Jets, play the Packers, play the Bears, play the Vikings. It’ll be fun.”
